Newberry man sentenced to 10 years for church thefts

A string of church break-ins that spanned two counties landed a Newberry man a 10-year sentence after he entered a guilty plea Monday afternoon to charges stemming from the incident, 8th Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo announced Wednesday

Terrance Lenard Chisolm, 38, changed his plea to guilty on the day of his scheduled trial Monday on to five counts of second-degree burglary.  Circuit Judge R. Scott Sprouse sentenced Chisolm to 10 years in prison on each of the charges, with the sentences to run concurrently. Chisolm has two prior convictions for burglary.

Lander adds 11 to incoming recruiting class

Lander wrestling head coach R.C. LaHaye announced the addition of 11 wrestlers that will join the Bearcats' wrestling program in the fall.

"We are very excited to add these student athletes to our first recruiting class for Lander wrestling," said LaHaye. "Not only are these excellent athletes, but they excel in the classroom as well. This crop will help lay the foundation for Bearcat wrestling and insure we start the program off in the right direction with quality student athletes that will represent Lander on and off the mat. It will be very exciting next fall to watch these student athletes develop and build the culture of Lander Bearcat wrestling."

Game Summary:  The Storm Chasers got out to a ten-run lead in the third inning and held on for a 19-18 victory over the Sandlot Sluggers on Monday.  The Storm Chasers totaled 23 hits in 3 1/2 innings. Holden S, Chance W, Milo D, Rylan J, Sawyer B, Harrison R, Cayden W, Riley P, Trey O, and Wade M all collected multiple hits for the Storm Chasers.

Emerald High School Varsity Baseball beat Carolina High School & Academy 15-0
Cam Lollis had all the right stuff on Tuesday for Emerald Vikings Varsity, allowing zero runs and besting Carolina Academy by a score of 15-0

Emerald Vikings Varsity fired up the offense in the first inning. Sean Adams drove in two when he doubled.  Emerald Vikings Varsity put up six runs in the second inning. Emerald Vikings Varsity's offense in the inning came from singles by Lollis and Caleb McLaughlin, a walk by Braeden Burton, a sacrifice fly by Gage Timmerman, and an error on a ball put in play by Brayden Ridge.

Run to the Rescue 5k to Benefit Humane Society of Greenwood

The 4th annual Run to the Rescue 5K is being held May 18, 2019 at the former American Legion Post 20 at 806 Calhoun Avenue in Greenwood. The 3.1 mile race is organized by volunteers to benefit the Humane Society of Greenwood and to raise awareness of homeless animals in the community. Cost is $25 through April 30, and $30 from May 1 through race day. All pre-registrants will receive an event t-shirt. Race begins at 8:30 am, and registration opens at 7 am.

In its first three years, this signature race has raised $11,609! Join us this year and help animals in need in the Greenwood community.
