Newberry man arrested after assaulting a woman with a knife

Greenwood City Police arrested a man after receiving a phone call to 911 that he was beating a woman.

Thomas Thaddaeus Tribble, 25 of 749 Daisy Street, Newberry was arrested and charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime.

Battle of Blackstock Commemoration, November 17, 2018

On November 20, 1780 following a fierce battle late in the day General Thomas Sumter, leading around 1,000 Patriot militiamen, gave the feared Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton, leading 270 British regulars, his first defeat during the Revolutionary War. This battle was fought on the farm of a Captain William Blackstock along the Tyger River in what is today Union County. On Saturday November 17, 2018 Musgrove Mill State Historic Site will be having a Commemoration of the Battle of Blackstock followed by a guided hike of the battlefield.

Abbeville man arrested after stealing money from purse

On Oct 11, 2018 Greenwood County Sheriff Officers responded to Ewireless on the 72 Bypass in Greenwood for a possible shoplifting and petit larceny.

According to the report, a store employee call police after two white males came in to the store and notice money missing from her purse after they left.  

As they entered the store, one man began talking to the clerk while the taller male walked around manipulating items on the sales floor.  Then the taller male entered the employee break room for a few minutes. He then came out and told the other man with him that they needed to leave and drove away in a burgundy minivan.

Mayor Adams delivers last "State of the City" address

City of Greenwood Mayor Welborn Adams delivered his final ‘State of the City’ address to members of the business community at the Greenwood SC Chamber’s “State of the City & County  Address” on November 2nd.   

Mayor Adams has served for nearly a decade in office and provided an update along with Greenwood County Council Chairman Steven Brown.  

Pictured  are Council Chair Steven Brown, Chamber Chairman Chip Stockman, Chamber CEO Angelle LaBorde, South State Bank Market President Rhett Baker, and City of Greenwood Mayor Welborn Adams.  

South State Bank served as the presenting sponsor of the 2018 luncheon event.”

The 26th annual Festival of Trees, “The Holly and The Ivy”, will be held December 1st and 2nd at First Baptist Church.  Come and enjoy twenty-eight lavishly decorated trees and thirty beautiful wreaths to get you in the holiday spirit! Holiday Tree Lighting celebration to kick-off season at Lander University

Horse-drawn carriages, ice skating and musical performances will usher in the season at Lander University's Holiday Tree Lighting celebration on Tuesday, November 27.

The university kicks off the holiday season when students return from Thanksgiving Break with a nostalgic celebration. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. outside on Assembly Plaza and extend to the Front Lawn of the Abney Cultural Center.
