Man facing trafficking charges
Police find more than 11 pounds of marijuana in vehicle

A Greenwood man is facing drug trafficking charges that could land him in prison for 10 years following a drug raid Thursday night at Windtree Apartments.

According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, agents with the Greenwood County Drug Enforcement Unit received an anonymous tip about drug activity at Windtree Apartments. The tipster told agents that the activity was being conducted near a white Chevrolet Impala. DEU agents went to the location at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday night.

According to the report, agents saw the vehicle and two black males standing outside the vehicle at the apartment complex. Agents parked their patrol vehicle and were approaching the vehicle on foot when the two men got in the vehicle and began to leave the apartment complex. An agent stood in front of the vehicle and ordered the men to stop. They accelerated toward the agent at which time he drew his weapon and ordered them to stop again. The men stopped the vehicle and complied with agents’ commands to exit the vehicle. One of the men was identified as Kendrick Lamar Williams, 29, of 100 Ashwood St., Greenwood.

According to the report, agents saw a gallon-sized ziplock bag full of marijuana in the driver’s side floorboard after Williams exited the vehicle. Williams said the marijuana was his and the bag contained a pound of the illegal drug. Williams told agents that there was not any other contraband in the vehicle. Police discovered a black brief case in the vehicle that contained another 10 gallon-sized ziplock bags full of marijuana during a search of the vehicle. The total weight of the marijuana seized is approximately 11.8 pounds.

Willimas is charged with trafficking marijuana, 10 pounds or more. The charge carries a minimum mandatory sentence of one year in prison and a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Williams is awaiting trial on two counts of trafficking cocaine stemming from May 2012 incident.
