Financial Empowerment Class, November 28, 12-1:30p. Chick-Fil-A is providing free lunch and Jennifer Wilson, from Edward Jones in Abbeville, is speaking.
The class is limited to 15 students, and they have to be referred from a local agency/company/church. (However, if someone reads this and wants to sign up, I’ll gladly meet him/her to determine if she/he is a good fit.) I’m focusing on people with low/fixed incomes, with cyclically bad spending habits, or who just don’t have the education necessary to better their finances…they’ve just never been taught.
It’s not just a class, either. It’s a one-year commitment of meeting with me once a month. This will include one-on-one counseling, personal budgets, credit counseling, education on good vs bad loans/credit. People may not have money to pay a credit counselor, or have the confidence to go into a bank, or even know what questions to ask, so my goal with this is to reach out to these people, teaching them skills to make wise financial decisions moving forward. The class is only half- full with two weeks of signing up left! Maybe you can run this and encourage agencies/companies/churches to contact me (feel free to include my email address) with any referrals.
