Local Boy Scouts & Leaders Recognized
Boys from the Long Cane District who earned the rank of Eagle Scout during 2012 were recognized, including, from left to right : Alexander Palmer -Troop 62, Jonathan Wilson -Troop 62, Sam Rice -Troop 911, Carson Strom -Troop  911 and John Tarasidis - Troop 911, and  Long Cane District BSA Eagle Review Board Chairman, Jay Pendergrass. Eagle Scouts who were not present at the banquet are Joseph Mappin -Troop 220, Hampton Riley -Troop 911, Elliot David Sealy -Troop 66, and Henry Smithdeal -Troop 220.

The Long Cane District of Boy Scouts of America held their annual awards banquet on December 6th, 2012 at the Ninety Six Depot.  Dozens of adult leaders, Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, den leaders, and scouting volunteers attended and shared a smorgasbord of home cooked favorites prepared by many of those in attendance. 

Nine Boy Scouts who earned the rank of Eagle Scout during 2012 were recognized during the banquet. Many adult leaders and volunteers were also recognized for their contributions to scouting in the Long Cane District, including; Keith Sperry of Troop 270 - Scoutmaster of the year, Sheila Tripp -District Webmaster & Troop 53 volunteer – District Award of Merit Ron Thompson of Troop 53 -Scouter of the year, Dr. John Bassett-Cubmaster of the year, Hoke Huss-Cub Scouter of the year, Don Goforth, Gray Stallworth, Pam Turner, Dr. Robert Eisler, and Mike Hilley, - Sparkplug of the year, Debbie Holder & Gary Stratton- The Dale Mosley Service Award.  

A signed print of Lake Caldwell at Camp Old Indian by Greenville artist Charlie Pate was presented to Gary Stratton for his many years of dedicated service to the Long Cane District and Boy Scout Troop 270. Mr Stratton served recently as District Commissioner of the Long Cane District / BSA and as Chairman of the District Training Committee for many years, and is currently an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 270.
