Officials comment on passing of Margaret Thatcher

Washington, DC - Congressman Jeff Duncan of South Carolina released the following statement on the passing of Prime Minister of Great Britain Margaret Thatcher:

“I’m saddened to hear about the passing of a great leader and conservative ally, Margaret Thatcher. Prime Minister Thatcher was not only a friend to the United States; she was a friend to all who believed in the promise of freedom. From her leadership against the threat of communism, to her advocacy for limited government policies, she was a voice for untold millions.”

“My family’s prayers go out to Baroness Thatcher’s family, and to the British people, for the loss of a leader who helped define an era.”

SC Governor Nikki Haley issued the following:

“I was saddened by the news this morning of the passing of a personal inspiration and hero, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.  In her momentous times, she left an enormous mark on her country and the world, reversing Great Britain’s path toward socialism and labor union domination, and helping to defeat international communism.

The daughter of a grocer, Margaret Thatcher broke numerous barriers of class and gender, just by being who she was. Her determination and achievements will make her a towering historical figure for generations to come.”

Thatcher made the comment that if you make it too easy for people who do not work they will not work and your country will go down hill, she is correct on this issue for sure.
