Students from colleges and universities across South Carolina will gather at Lander University on Thursday and Friday, April 24-25 for the annual Carolina Undergraduate Social Science Symposium, sponsored by the South Carolina Sociological Association.
Association president Dr. Daniel Harrison, associate professor of sociology at Lander, said the event gives students opportunities to make presentations based on the results of their research.
The keynote speaker will be acclaimed author George Singleton, the John C. Cobb Endowed Chair of Humanities at Wofford College. Singleton has written more than 200 short stories and published two novels and a book on writing advice. In 2010, he was inducted into the South Carolina Academy of Authors. The subject of his talk will be “Participant-Observation Methods in the New New South.”
Singleton’s appearance will be on Thursday evening, April 24, at 7 p.m., in Lander’s Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium. The public is invited to attend and admission is free.
