The 2014 edition of Lander University’s Student Academic Showcase was “the best yet,” according to Associate Professor of English and Honors College Director Dr. Lillian Craton, who co-chaired the event.

“The quality of the work was astounding,” said Craton. “I’m so happy to see such advanced research and creativity from our student body.”

The event exists to reward students for academic excellence and to inspire them to pursue higher levels of engagement in their chosen disciplines. It features creative compositions in studio arts and performances in fine arts, as well as scholarly presentations, posters and research papers.

This year’s showcase included a music honors recital and life sciences panel of student research that were not judged. Sessions and panels that were judged, with the resulting winners, included:

  • History — Grace Halsey, of Hodges
  • Philosophy — Stephen Sanders, of Greenwood
  • English — Jana Wilson, of Taylors; honorable mention — Stephen Sanders
  • Art — Tyler Frasier, of Pelzer; honorable mention — Sammantha Bailey, of Newberry
  • Computer Information Systems — Andrew Phillips, of Lexington; Cody McCarter, of Greenwood; Bryan Fleming, of Orangeburg; and Darius Carrier, of Charlotte, N.C.
  • Mathematics — Brandon Patterson, of Taylors
  • Physical Science — Tanner Cameron, of McCormick; first honorable mention — Jordan Buckner, of Pawley’s Island; second honorable mention — Bhargav Patel, of Greenwood, and Eric Shouse, of Whitmire
  • Psychology — Amanda Shahan and Ashley Hudson, both of Greenville; first honorable mention — Jessica Brenbarger, of Sumter; second honorable mention — Samuel Jackson, of Easley
  • Honors College Poster Session — Steven McMahan, of Donalds; honorable mention — Jordan Beeler, of Aiken; Miranda Cox and Sarah Snowden, both of Lexington
