Lander University is hosting the 2014 MAT Graduation Art Exhibition in the Jackson Library starting today until July 3 with a closing reception will be held on July 2 from 5 to 7 pm. The Masters of Teaching program at Lander University is a rigorous 14-month program that prepares artists for a career teaching. Director of the MAT program, Dr. Susan Deaton states, "We collaborate with our colleagues, parents, and students to make art relevant to the life of our school and community."
The 2014 MAT Graduation Exhibit will feature artwork from five female artists; the show will feature mixed media, photography, drawing, and 3d artwork. This exhibit has the unique perspective of future educators as they prepare to enter the dual roles of artist and teacher. Candy Cannon, a 2014 MAT Graduate, discusses her artwork, "Since I entered the MAT program, I have pushed myself to try new techniques and materials. When I work with mixed media, I like to pretend my art is like a patchwork quilt. The viewer will see a cohesive unified piece of artwork, but also the materials that I used in the process."
The exhibition will run from June 26 thru July 3, with a closing reception on July 2 from 5 to 7pm. The exhibit is open to the public; refreshments will be served during the closing reception. The Jackson Library's summer hours are Monday 7 am to 5 pm and Tuesday thru Thursday 7am to 8 pm. The library is closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The 2014 MAT Graduates are Ashley Battle, Samantha Brown, Candy Cannon, Amanda Wald, and Johneethia Williams. For more information about this event, please visit www.lander.edu.
