Interested students still have time to enroll for Late Term, which begins September 30.

Mechatronics Program Preparing Students for the Future

The latest buzzword in manufacturing is mechatronics. A widely accepted career in Europe since the 1990s, mechatronics has only recently been recognized as a new training opportunity in Upstate South Carolina. But the nature of the field is still confusing to many people.

Father & Son Baseball Camp

New members appointed to Lander Foundation Board of Trustees

Lander University has announced four appointments to the Board of Trustees of The Lander Foundation. The foundation was created in 1948 and, in 1973, it was restructured as an independent, nonprofit organization responsible for receiving, managing and investing gifts for Lander’s welfare.

Palmetto Christian Academy Swimming Lions compete in SDS Invitational

On August 15, 2015, Palmetto Christian Academy participated in its first official swim meet of the 2015 season at the SDS Invitational hosted by Spartanburg Day School at Converse College.  A total of 11 teams participated in the SDS Invitation and Palmetto Christian Academy swim team brought 20 swimmers to the meet.

Golf tournament to benefit WS Hornets

The Ware Shoals Hornets/Junior Golf Association Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Ware Shoals Golf Club. Shotgun starts will be at 8:30 am and 1:30 pm. Entry fee is $40.00 per person and includes cart, green fee, cookout, close-ups, prizes, one Mulligan, 1 red tee, longest drive and most accurate. The format will be a 4-man Captain's Choice based on a 10-point scale. Hole sponsors are $25. For more information, call 864-456-2623.

Local Credit Union Awards Teachers
Neighbors United Federal Credit Union recently held a competition in which two local teachers were awarded $250 to use in their classrooms. To apply, teachers were asked to write a short letter explaining how they would use the money if it was awarded to them.

Shag fun night to benefit Lander alumni scholarship fund

Lander University’s Alumni Association will sponsor a Shag and Music Fest on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 7-10 p.m., at the Gatewood Club, 114 Club Drive, in Greenwood. The community is invited to attend the event, which will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and dancing to the music of DJ Travis Moore.

Flying Fleet to Host "Red Myers Little Four Classic"November 13-14

DUE WEST - Erskine Vice-President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Head Men's Basketball Coach Mark Peeler announced today the school will host the 2015 "Red Myers Little Four Classic" on November 13th and 14th. The classic will be held in honor of former legendary Erskine coach Red Myers who led the Fleet for twenty-five years from 1958-1983. The Little Four Classic was played annually during Myers' tenure typically featuring Erskine, Presbyterian, Newberry, and Wofford.

Piedmont Technical College to Hold Commencement August 6

Piedmont Technical College will be holding two summer commencement exercises on August 6. 

Commencement exercises will begin at 3 p.m. for health science and nursing graduates. A ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. for Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, business and information technology, industrial technology and engineering technology graduates. Both commencement exercises will be held in the James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood.

NS School District to name baseball field to honor Sammy Corley

The Ninety Six School Board approved a resolution during their meeting held Tuesday, July 21 to rename the Ninety Six Baseball field to honor the late Sammy Corley.

Corley has a long list of accolades starting as far back as the late 50’s.  He was a six-time MVP of Ninety Six Wildcat Baseball and named All-State, Co-Captain of the 1962 State Champion Football team and further went on to play in the American Legion Baseball league.

Lander receives five-year funding to assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds

Lander University and 20 other South Carolina institutions of higher education will share in a more than $5-million federal grant to fund their Student Support Services (SSS) programs.

The programs are designed to identify and provide services for students identified as disadvantaged, giving them intensive academic support, tutoring, counseling and career and cultural enrichment.

Piedmont Tech Welding Instructor Destined to Teach

Tony Amos was destined to become a welder. His heart led him to take up teaching.

Amos grew up in Laurens County, graduating from Laurens District 55 High School in 1986 and joined the United States Marine Corps. He started as a diesel engine repairman and worked his way through the ranks to become an instructor.

Parker receives Bickley Memorial Scholarship

Alexis Parker, a recent graduate of Emerald High School, has been selected as a recipient of the Brandon James Bickley and Hannah Faith Bickley Memorial Scholarship.  This is a $1000.00 Scholarship that is presented to residents of housing programs assisted by member agencies of the Carolinas Council of Housing Redevelopment and Codes Officials.  Ms. Parker will be attending Winthrop University in the fall majoring in Accounting.

Arnez Gray listed on Commissioner's Honor Roll

NEWBERRY, SC - The South Atlantic Conference has released the 2014-15 Commissioner's Honor Roll, with 126 Newberry College student-athletes named to the list.  One of those students is Arnez Gray of Greenwood SC.

To be eligible for inclusion on the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, student-athletes must have competed in a sponsored championship sport and maintained a cumulate GPA of 3.30 or higher throughout the academic year.

Lander and School District 50 form Montessori education partnership

Lander University and Greenwood School District 50 have agreed to partner in establishing and operating a Montessori Early Childhood laboratory school at Lakeview Elementary School in Greenwood. Both sides said the agreement will provide exemplary educational opportunities for children and an enhanced environment for Lander to deliver its Montessori Teacher Education program.
