Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

GREENWOOD, SC – An Abbeville man has been charged with molesting a seven-year-old child over 30 years ago after the victim came forward in September.

According to a report from the Greenwood Police Department, the victim contacted police to report the incident on September 11th. The victim said they had not come forward before because the man threatened to kill them and their mother if they told anyone.

Police arrested the man, Kenneth Raymond Gilmer, 54, after he was located, as the victim said they had not seen Gilmer since they were nine years old.

According to the report, Gilmer allegedly forced the victim to perform oral sex and would “dry hump” the victim.

Gilmer has been charged with 1st degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. There is no statute of limitations on the crime in South Carolina.

I have known this man for a long time. I first met him about 25 - 26 years ago when we worked at the same place together. He was a strange person then and I have even run into him out in public since then and he still has that same strange personality that he had back then.
I cannot say whether he did it or not but I am not surprised of the accusations against him.

Its for the jury to decide what is and isn't true. My prayers are with both families. I can't imagine the turmoil they are going through in the wake of this accusation, both the family of the woman coming forward now and the Gilmer family. It's hard to imagine 30 years passing in silence though, why now?

This man has problems. I met him and he seemed very nice. We talked about God and church among other things. He knew a lot about the Bible. But when I didnt want to see him anymore, he became another person. He rang my phone constantly and got angry. When I wouldnt answer he began sending texts nonstop. He even made a video to my phone trying to convince me to talk to him. I finally called the law. I wasnt even his girlfriend, just met him once.

I don't know either one of them but to see some of these comments kinda ticked me off. The reason why people wait so long is because they are ashamed of what has happened to them and because they are afraid it was their fault. If you would listen and pay attention to the way society is, you would understand this. Most women who come forward about this situation, especially years ago, were blamed. People said it was their faults and they shouldn't have put themselves in a situation to be raped or molested. And he deserves to be arrested if he did this, I don't care how long ago it was, because he could have done this to more children.

It takes a lot of guts for anyone to come forward who has been molested. Let me get one thing straight. She was a child when this happened. Children are scared, embarrassed, and feel as if it is their fault. This lady has been very brave to come forward even at her age. She doesn't need the publicity. She needs justice to be served so she can get closure and move on with her life. Before you start accusing someone of lying, you need to know how it feels to be molested. Usually, the ones you think who are not capable of committing this act are the ones who do. There are a lot of child molestation cases that go unreported every year. This happens because kids do not think anyone will believe them. Some parents won't report it because of the publicity or because it was a family member. I live with a similar situation every day of my life. This lady needs to be supported in her decision to finally come forward.
