GREENWOOD, SC – The Greenwood Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Tavaris K. Lester. Lester was shot at a home on Moss Creek Lane on November 16, 2012, and succumbed to those injuries on November 23, 2012.

Investigators believe that Demorio Hakeem Reese, 22, of 304 Vintage Court in Greenwood, was involved in the shooting. Officials with the Greenwood Police Department said that Reese was subpoenaed to come in and talk with investigators about the incident. He was charged as a result of information gathered from that interview and others conducted about the incident, according to officials.

Lester was reportedly at 203 Moss Creek Lane playing cards with several other individuals when he was shot through a window just before 10 p.m. on November 16th. He was unresponsive when police arrived, but officers were able to perform CPR and revive him before EMS arrived. Lester was then transported to Self Regional Healthcare to receive treatment for his injuries. Lester died as a result of those injuries just after 7 p.m. on November 23rd.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

This is truly a sad situation. However, one set of parents had to bury their child while this young man's parents can still visit him in jail. It is no ryme or reason to why some young people are making some awful choices regarding their future. If this young man cared about his future, he wouldn't have been involved in this situation.

PEOPLE need to think before they act!! I don't feel sorry for this murderer but I do feel sorry for his parents that have to live with knowing their son took another human beings life.

Respectfully,
Charrelle

Seeing this breaks my heart. I taught Demario in both middle school and high school. I have seen him recently and he has hugged me and promised he was doing better. Another young man with great possibilities and a good heart that the streets claimed. Our community has got to break this cycle!
