GREENWOOD---The Lander University Dancers will perform in concert on Monday and Tuesday, April 1- 2, in Lander’s Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium beginning at 8 p.m. both evenings. The concerts are free and open to the public. The theme of the performance is “Layers of Kinesthetic Reflections.”
Dr. Hannah Park, assistant professor of dance, said the dancers have been devoting their energy and time to creative, collaborative and performance processes, and the concert will feature their perspectives of life, whether through their own personal experiences or observations.
The concert will include performances of modern dance, contemporary jazz, cultural/world dance, tap and hip-hop. The common theme, Park said, will demonstrate dance as a medium for creative, individual expression.
Park said 35 students make up the Lander dance company. Many of them are majoring in education, nursing, psychology or mass communication and theatre, with a minor in dance. “They have the desire, interest and heart as they embrace dance as a unique form of nonverbal communication. Some of them have told me how dance gives them a sense of relief and joy.”
