A Greenwood man has been arrested in connection with an April 22 incident that left another man with multiple facial fractures and knocked out several teeth.

According to a report from the Greenwood Police Department, officers responded to a 911 hang-up on Woodson Court at about 6:30 p.m. on April 22. After verifying that nothing was wrong at that residence, officers heard someone asking for help at the residence next door. Officers saw a man sitting in the floor bleeding profusely from his mouth. Officers also saw a red mark approximately three inches long and two inches wide on the left side of the victim’s forehead along with a blood and teeth on the floor.

According to the report, the man was unable to tell police what had happened to him. The man was transported by Greenwood County EMS to Self Regional Medical Center. Police spoke with several people in the area, but none of them were able to tell police what had happened to the man.

Investigators say that the man came to the police department after being released from the hospital and said that he had gotten into a verbal altercation with Dennis Devon Hawes, 21, of 720 Macedonia Ave. in Greenwood, during a get-together at 304-A Woodson St. The man said that Hawes had punched and kicked him numerous times, causing the injuries which police observed.

According to investigators, Hawes spoke to police and corroborated most of what the victim said. He was arrested and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
