A Greenwood man is facing child abuse charges following reports of injuries to the head of an 16-month-old baby.
According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a home located at 2220 Montague Avenue Ext., Lot 84, on April 25 after receiving a report of possible child abuse at the residence. When police arrived, they spoke with the child’s mother, who said she went to work the previous night and left the baby with her boyfriend, Ricky Wade Lecroy, 24. When she woke up the following morning, there was bruising on the baby’s head. When she questioned Lecroy about it, he told her that the baby fell in the bathtub.
According to the report, the mother did not believe Lecroy and called 911. Police observed bruising and swelling to the left side of the baby’s head, the back of the head and the forehead. The bruising did not appear to be fresh, due to its yellowish color. The baby’s mother told police that Lecroy was inside. When police went inside, they could not locate Lecroy and the back door of the home was open. Police searched the area, but were unable to locate him. The injuries did not appear to police to be consistent with falling in the bathtub. The mother and the child were transported to Self Regional Medical Center by Greenwood County EMS.
According to investigators, a warrant for child abuse was obtained for Lecroy. Lecroy had the warrant served on him on Thursday, at which time he was arrested. He has been charged with unlawful neglect by a legal custodian in connection with the incident.
