Second arrest made in Tabor Street slaying

The Greenwood Police Department has arrested a second suspect in a shooting that left a Columbia teen dead and four others injured.

According to investigators, Jason Demar Aiken, 26, of 209 W Creswell Ave., has been arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and four counts of attempted murder.

Investigators believe that Aiken and 17-year-old Dayterrious White, who was arrested the day following the April 6 shooting, approached a birthday party and opened fire, killing 15-year-old Malik Birshon Padgett and wounding four others.

Aiken is currently being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center. A circuit court judge must set White’s bond since the crime of which he is accused could result in a life sentence or the death penalty. A date for his bond hearing has not been set.
