Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

The South Carolina Leath Chapter Association sponsored a Gang Workshop at Leath Correctional Institution.  The Gang Workshop was very informative which gave information on the widespread issue that is plagueing the state of South Carolina.  Elbert Pearson from Columbia (Special Investigator with the Inspector General's Office of the South Carolina Department of Corrections), Captain Hugie (Captain of security threat Group for South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice), and Sergeant Gerard Walls (Investigator of Gang Unit for Richland County) were the speakers.

The Speakers elaborated on Gang Awareness issues such as how to readily identify gang members, gang tendecies, effects of gang violence, and what can be done to slow down gang violence.

Statewide and local law enforcement agencies were present which included Greenwood County Detention Center, Aiken County Sheriff's Office Detention, Turbeville Correctional Institution, South Carolina Highway Patrol, South Carolina Probation & Parole, Lauren's County Sheriff Department, Manning Correctional Institution, Perry Correctional Institution, City of Greenwood Investigations, Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, McCormick Correctional Institution, Greenwood Healthy Association and many others along with Leath Correctional Institution.

With the increase in Gang Violence in Greenwood and throughout the state we have to be able to stay informed and keep up with the gang activity. The Gangs are constantly changing and law enforcement, corrections, and the community have to make a statement to show that we will do everything we can to keep the gangs from making the streets unsafe, keep gangs from destroying the neighborhoods, and keep gangs from intimating the people in society. The community must stay informed and send out a message loud and clear.  The Gang Violence has got to stop!  And the law enforcement along with the community can do it.

The South Carolina Leath Chapter Association would like to thank the following Greenwood Business for making this workshop a success:  O' Charley's, Fatz, Belks, Chili's, Smokehouse Barbecue, and Applebees.
