GCSO, VCTF investigating suspicious death
Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox has identified the victim as 68-year-old Phillip Joseph Baer. Baer lived at the apartment where the incident occurred.

The circumstances of Baer’s death make it suspicious, Cox said. The cause of Baer’s death is unknown at this time, according to Cox. An autopsy will be performed in Anderson on Monday morning.

The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and the Violent Crimes Task Force are investigating a death that investigators are calling suspicious.

Police were dispatched to apartment E-1 at Hillcrest Condos, located at 1522 Parkway Court, just after 8 p.m. Sunday night after receiving a call about a dead body at the apartment. When they arrived, deputies found an older white male dead inside the apartment. Officials said it was unclear how the man died at this time.

GCSO officials say there were some things at the scene that made the death appear suspicious. The death is being treated as a homicide, according to officials.

Investigators say that a truck belonging to the deceased male, who remains unidentified at this time, is missing from the scene. The vehicle is a light blue 1998 single cab Ford Ranger bearing South Carolina license plate 4368FY. If you see this vehicle please notify investigators immediately.

The investigation into the man’s death is ongoing.

So sorry to hear this. Baer was a good person, so kind-hearted. He will be missed greatly. Praying for the family
