A Hodges man is in custody facing criminal domestic violence charges after police say he was assaulting a woman when the woman stabbed him in the thigh with a pocket knife.
According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to 623 Morgan Rd. in Hodges after receiving a 911 call stating someone had been stabbed. Police found the victim at the residence next door with blood on her pants and shirt. The victim also had a badly swollen lip and dried blood on her ear. The victim told police that she stabbed a man, later identified as Barry Christopher Bowie, 22, because he was beating her.
According to the report, police found Bowie at the residence lying in a pool of blood with a belt tied around his leg to suppress the bleeding from a stab wound to his thigh. Bowie told police that the victim did not do anything wrong and police could detect a strong odor of alcohol coming from Bowie. EMS began treating Bowie’s injury as police continued investigating.
According to the report, the victim told police that she was sleeping on the couch when Bowie wakened her. The two began arguing and Bowie began beating the victim. The victim told police that he knocked out her dental partial. The partial was located in the living room near a ball of the victim’s hair. At some point during the altercation, the victim grabbed the knife, stabbed Bowie and fled to the neighbor’s house where she contacted police. Police determined that Bowie was the main aggressor in the incident.
Bowie has been charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
