The South Carolina Leath Chapter Association contacted a representative concerning what the Chapter could do for the Veterans as a Leath Chapter Project. The Veteran representative wanted to know if we had anyone that could sew. The project of the Shirt/Bibs for Vets was taken on by Capt. John Dowling and Lt. Col. Kay Dowling, with the permission of Lt. Col. Ceryl Johns, Commander of the Legislative Squadron, South Carolina Wing of the Civil Air Patrol has been called "Shirt/Bibs for Vets.
The Bibs were sewed inside the shirt by the inmates that work in the Prison Industries Plant. The Shirt/Bibs will be sent to USAF Ret. and Administrative Assistant for Geriatric and Extended Care Services at the V.A. Campbells Veterans Home in Anderson, SC.
By wearing these shirt/bibs to be referred to from now on as their "shirt" the veterans will have more dignity and feel better about themselves since they are no longer having to wear the child like bibs that they have been wearing all these years. The Inmates were more than overjoyed to help in the project for the Veterans.
For information on future projects please contact Lt. Carter at 229-5709.
