Greenwood County named a new treasurer at a special called meeting on Tuesday.
Council unanimously voted to make Sharon Setzer, who is currently the county auditor, the new treasurer. Setzer worked in the treasurer’s office from 2008 until being named auditor in July 2012. Setzer was one of three finalists for the position. The other two were interim treasurer Elizabeth Meadows and former Anderson County assistant administrator Gina Humphries.
“I don’t think we could have gone wrong with any of the three finalists,” said Councilman Robbie Templeton. “We had very qualified candidates. Ultimately, (Setzer)’s previous experience in that office is what made the difference.”
Humphries will step in as the acting auditor when Setzer assumes her new role as treasurer.
“We felt like we needed someone who could step in and hit the ground running as the auditor,” said council chairman Mark Allison of naming Humphries as the acting auditor. “(Humphries) has a lot of experience in that role and a wide experience in government.”
The county will advertise the position of auditor immediately and begin accepting resumes. There is no timetable for a decision to be made on a new auditor.
