A Greenwood man is facing assault and drug charges after police say he struck another man with a pistol during an altercation last month.
According to multiple reports from the Greenwood Police Department, police observed a man they knew to be Ricky Jarvarious Griffin, 25, of 301 Beechwood Circle, Greenwood. Griffin was known to have two active arrest warrants in connection with a Nov. 7 incident in which he allegedly struck another man multiple times with a pistol in addition to pointing the gun in the man’s face during an altercation.
According to the reports, Griffin stopped his vehicle on Cooper Street. Officers stopped behind Griffin’s vehicle and observed him leaning over into the passenger seat of the vehicle as though he were attempting conceal something. Griffin exited his vehicle and officers made contact with him and placed him under arrest on active arrest warrants for pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and second degree assault and battery. A search of Griffin yielded about 45 grams of a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a set of digital scales covered in a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana and more than $1,200 in cash.
Griffin has been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana in addition to the charges stemming from the incident which occurred Nov. 7. Griffin currently has charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a stolen pistol pending in connection with a March 2013 incident in which police responded to a residence on Truett Street after Griffin and his girlfriend allegedly got into an argument over noodles. During the incident, police found more than three pounds of marijuana.
