A Greenwood man is facing a charge of third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor following a report he fondled a girl under the age of 16.
According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were contacted on Nov. 27 after the victim went to a school guidance counselor to report the incident, which occurred sometime between January and April this year. The victim told the counselor that a man, later identified as Gabino Figuero Hernandez, 46, of 206 W. Belle Oaks Drive, Greenwood, asked her to fix a cell phone that was broken. The victim said that Hernandez began to fondle her while she worked on the phone.
According to the report, the victim told the counselor that Hernandez fondled her again later the same day, but she was able to get away and leave the residence. The counselor immediately notified school administration who then contacted Department of Social Services. DSS officials then contacted law enforcement.
According to the report, GCSO investigators met with the victim, who repeated her account of the incident. The victim’s mother was contacted and met with law enforcement at the school. The victim’s mother said that she was aware of the incident, but the victim told her that she did not want to cause problems.
Hernandez was arrested Tuesday and is currently being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center.
