Two Greenwood women to be honored At Chamber Luncheon

The Women’s Leadership Council (WLC), an initiative of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, will honor two area professional women at the Council’s January 10th “Women of Excellence” Awards Luncheon to be held at the Arts Center at the Federal Building.

Presented by Self Regional Healthcare, the luncheon will recognize Anne Craig, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Greenwood County, as the WLC “Catalyst” award winner and Donna Adams, owner of Allegra Print•Marketing•Mail as the “Sustainer” award winner.

WLC Steering Committee Chair Donna Foster stated that the council is honored to recognize these two outstanding women.  “Anne and Donna have both meant so much to the Greenwood community and have given their time and resources countless times to advance good causes and improve the quality of life here.  We are so proud of both of them.”

Craig, honored with the “Catalyst” award, was cited for her vision and unflagging pursuit of a proper home for the Arts Council of Greenwood County.  She often looked at the empty Federal Building and imagined it as the Council’s new home replete with gallery space and meeting areas, as well a grand space for receptions of all types.  She worked with community leaders on the realization of this dream, a project to become known as the “Arts Triangle” project which included renovations to the adjacent Greenwood Community Theatre and Museum.  Craig wrote grants that resulted in nearly $400,000 for the renovation efforts, acted as project manager and administrator during renovations, and even called on her interior design skills to appoint the spaces with finishing design touches upon completion.

Today, the Arts Center is a staple of the Uptown Greenwood business district, hosting multiple exhibits, receptions, recitals and other events, as well as providing studio and classroom space to a variety of artists who work and teach at the center.

“The ‘Catalyst’ award honors a woman who makes things happen,” added Foster.  “It is a direct result of Anne’s energy and passion that the Arts Center enjoys success today, and it is the reason the Women’s Leadership Council is pleased to recognize her,” she said.

The WLC “Sustainer” award recognizes a woman who often works behind the scenes to make things happen.  This unsung hero works quietly to improve the community’s quality of life, often shunning recognition or praise.  According to her nomination, Donna Adams is just that sort of hero.

Adams has owned her print business since 1986, growing it to include marketing and mail services as well as specialty advertising products.  She is actively involved with the Greenwood Rotary Club and was a founding member of the Greenwood Chapter of Business Networking International (BNI).  She frequently uses her business resources to assist in numerous community causes ranging from the Humane Society of Greenwood County to Bowers-Rodgers Home.  In fact, it is difficult to know all of the causes Adams has assisted with, because she is reluctant to speak of them.  “Donna considers her contributions to be a part of her involvement in the life of our community,” said Foster.  “She doesn’t brag about what she does, she just steps up when there is a need and helps, always without fanfare.  She truly exemplifies everything our ‘Sustainer’ award represents.”

The “Women of Excellence” Awards Luncheon will open at 11:30 a.m. with a pre-reception to allow attendees to meet the honorees as well as past award recipients.  The luncheon will begin at noon with the program following at 12:15 p.m.  Special guest speaker for the luncheon will be Dr. Christine Lomer La Cola, Executive Director of the Institute for Leadership and Professional Excellence at Columbia College.  Her presentation topic will be “The Leader In You . . . Being Resolute!”

Gold Sponsors for the luncheon include: Covidien, Greenwood Family YMCA, Old Main Catering, Praise Unlimited Weddings and Trinity Photography.  WLC Supporters are: Capsugel, Eaton Corporation, Hydraulics Group and Voila! Bridal & Formal.

Admission for the luncheon is $20 per person and includes the reception, luncheon and program.  For more information or to make reservations, call the Chamber office: 223-8431, ext. 234 or email to
