Mathis Road, near the intersection with Cobb Road, collapsed Saturday afternoon due to heavy rainfall, officials said.
According to officials with the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office, last week's heavy rainfall washed away the sediment around a culvert pipe underneath the road. Both lanes of the road collapsed just west of Cobb Road.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation has the section of road blockaded until they can complete repairs over the next several days, officials said.
Officials said the area should be avoided until the repairs are completed.
