A Greenwood woman charged in the theft of nearly $25,000 from the Piggly Wiggly store in Ware Shoals was arrested again Tuesday for allegedly altering a doctor’s prescription.
According to a warrant issued by the Greenwood Magistrate’s Office, Amanda Jill Branyon, 34, is charged with violation of drug distribution laws after she removed the refill date on a prescription for Adderall. The warrant states, in part, that Branyon “did unlawfully obtain a quantity of Adderall 30mg, a schedule II controlled substance by fraud.” The warrant further states that officials with the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control contacted Branyon’s practitioner, who confirmed that Branyon’s prescription had been altered by removing the refill date.
Branyon is currently awaiting trial on two counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent, greater than $10,000, stemming from a June 2012 incident in which she allegedly stole nearly $25,000 from the Piggly Wiggly store in Ware Shoals. According to a report from the Ware Shoals Police Department, surveillance video from the store shows Branyon taking cash on a number of occasions and hiding it in personal belongings. There were two checks made out to cash in the amount of $5,000 which have no signatures on the back. There was a total of $14,478 missing where debit card, credit card and EBT card purchases were made at the store. All of the entries have Branyon’s unique computer user ID next to them.
