A Lander University student is facing a charge of first degree criminal sexual conduct after police say he forced a woman to have intercourse with him at a party.
According to a report from the Greenwood Police Department, police were dispatched to the emergency room at Self Regional Medical Center at about 5:30 a.m. last Friday morning in reference to a sexual assault. Hospital staff told police the victim had been brought to the emergency room at about 1:30 a.m. that morning and was highly intoxicated. Hospital staff told police the victim was vomiting heavily. The victim did not initially want police contacted, but did request a sexual trauma kit be completed and requested a “morning after” pill.
According to the report, the victim told police she went to a fraternity party at a house on Kirksey Drive with two friends. She was separated from her friends and went looking for them. She went outside where she encountered Hunter Garrett Coker, 20. Coker told the victim he would take her to her friends. Coker took her over to where cars were parked and asked the victim to expose herself. When she refused, Coker told the victim he would not take her to her friends if she did not have sex with him. Coker then spun her around and forced himself on her.
According to the report, two other friends of the victim arrived at the house and saw the victim walking around looking “immensely distraught.” The victim told her friends what happened and the friends took the victim to the hospital. The two friends told police that Coker had asked the victim to expose herself to him before and that Coker “mistreated girls.” Hospital staff told police there were some injuries to the victim.
Coker was arrested Wednesday and charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with the incident. Officials at Lander University confirmed that Coker is a student there.
