Wesley Commons resident wins SCAPA Volunteer of the Year Award

The South Carolina Activities Professionals Association (SCAPA) has bestowed upon Ms. Marti Hurst, Wesley Commons Resident, its coveted “Volunteer of the Year Award” for 2014. Ms. Hurst received the award March 6, 2014, at the SCAPA Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach.

At Wesley Commons, Marti Hurst sets the tone for service and community responsibility.  She feels that, as a community, it is everyone’s responsibility to care for the needs of our neighbors.  She sets the example that we take care of each other and meet the needs of the community. Marti Hurst serves in all areas of the campus, helping residents and staff in whatever ways she can, from the fitness advisory team, the chaplain’s advisory team, art group leader to decorating the campus for the holidays, and is also an instrumental part of creating an annual Halloween experience for children in the community.

Marti plays an integral role in the annual community craft fair.  Her artistic abilities and willingness to help have been instrumental in helping to advertise and make the event a yearly success.  Ms. Hurst has used the talents that God has given her to bless others. She also continually asks others to join her in volunteering.

Ms. Hurst’s involvement in the Fitness Advisory Team and the Chaplain’s Advisory Team demonstrates her teamwork efforts.  She works with her peers to seek out ways to progress all programming, from enhanced safety, to new classes and services, and even facility improvements.  Ms. Hurst does not simply sit back and offer suggestions; she takes the initiative to seek out ways that she can personally contribute to successfully implementing the ideas.

All of the residents and staff do love and appreciate Marti for her time and dedication to the mission of Wesley Commons, and congratulate her for leading by example and being the recipient of such a treasured award!
