The Greenwood County Violent Crimes Task Force is investigating two separate shootings that occurred late Thursday night leaving at least one person injured.
VCTF investigators believe the two incidents are possibly related, though they would not definitively say whether or not that was the case.
According to multiple Greenwood Police Department reports, the first incident was reported at about 11:25 p.m. Thursday night. Police were dispatched to the 7-11 convenience store located at 2550 U.S. 25 S. in response to shots being fired into the store. Witnesses said an unknown vehicle pulled up to the store and opened fire, with at least one shot going through the store’s front glass. The clerk locked himself inside the store’s office until police arrived, per store police. There were also two other men at the store who were present when the shooting occurred. None of the three could give a good description of the vehicle from which the shots were fired.
According to the reports, just minutes after the shooting at 7-11 was reported, a resident on Ashcroft Drive called 911 to report a gunshot entering her home. The woman told police that she heard something hit her front door and noticed there was a hole in the bottom of the door with splintered wood lying on the floor near the door. The woman said she heard numerous gun shots. Police interviewed a number of other witnesses who all reported hearing numerous gunshots. There were some shell casings found, but investigators would not release the type of weapons and ammunition that may have been used in the shooting.
According to the reports, investigators received a call just before midnight that there was a man at Self Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Investigators said the wound was not critical. The man told investigators that he believed he had been shot on Ashcroft Drive, leading investigators to believe that he was shot during the previously reported incident.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
