Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

The Greenwood Police Department has made an arrest in a string of thefts from several Dazzle Car Wash locations throughout Greenwood County.

Mark Lee Blackmon, 42, of 306 Palamino Drive, Cowpens, was arrested and charged with theft from a coin operated machine and malicious injury to real property in connection with the incidents. Investigators say another arrest is likely in connection with the thefts.

Investigators distributed surveillance photos of the two men believed to be committing the thefts and, according to police reports, the two men were identified after an anonymous source saw the photos on GwdToday and contacted law enforcement officials. The source also informed investigators that Blackmon was currently incarcerated in Newberry County after being arrested for a similar string of crimes there, the reports stated.

According to the reports, Blackmon and another unidentified man went to three different Dazzle Car Wash locations in Greenwood on April 17, April 18 and April 24 and stole nearly $400 in quarters by inserting a bill into the change machine and retrieving the bill by a piece of tape attached to the bill. A $20 bill and a $ bill with tape on them were found jammed in two of the change machines.

According to the reports, May 6, the day the photos of the suspects appeared on GwdToday, investigators received several calls from anonymous sources identifying the suspects and indicating Blackmon was already incarcerated in Newberry County. The following day, Newberry County authorities contacted investigators while speaking to Blackmon about the incidents in Greenwood County. Blackmon admitted to committing the crimes in Greenwood County.
