A Greenwood man was arrested after the girl he alleged had stolen his vehicle and with whom he had been having a relationship turned out to be just 15 years old.
Bobby Dion Wright, 49, of 608 Milwee Ave., is facing a charge of third degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
According to Greenwood Police Department reports, Wright notified police on Wednesday night that his white Ford Mustang was missing. Wright said he believed the 15-year-old girl had the car because he had given her a ride to get food the day before and the girl had spent the night at his house. Wright showed police a text message he sent the girl asking her to bring the car back. “I’ll bring it back, but you can not call the police I’m only 16 years old,” (sic) the text read.
According to the reports, Wright told police that the girl told him she was 18 years old. Police determined the girl was only 15 years old. The girl said she had been “laying up” with Wright for about two months and that consensual sexual activity had taken place between the two. The girl told police she informed Wright that she was 16 years old, though she is only 15 years old.
Wright was taken into custody Sunday night at about 9 p.m. He is currently being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
