Former Wesley Commons employee charged with abusing patient

A former employee of Wesley Commons was arrested Wednesday after police say she abused a 103-year-old patient earlier this month.

Okiemute Tamara Lott, 37, of 817 Spring St., is facing a charge of abuse of a vulnerable adult in connection with the incident.

According to a Greenwood Police Department report, police were dispatched to the facility on June 9 after receiving a report of abuse of one of the patients. The incident was reported to Wesley Commons management by a shift supervisor. The patient, a 103-year-old man, told the shift supervisor that Lott hit him with a shoe, causing a cut on his left cheek. Lott said she was covering the patient up with a blanket and the patient told her she was doing it wrong before he hit her in the arm. Lott said she then noticed the cut on his cheek and got a cloth to stop the bleeding.

According to the report, investigators spoke with Lott again the following day. Lott told investigators she was aggravated because she came to work the night of the incident and several alarms were going off and several patients who were supposed to be in bed were still up. Lott continued to maintain that she did not hit the patient with a shoe. Wesley Commons management asked officers to stand by as Lott was being terminated. Officers then escorted Lott from the property. Lott was also placed on trespass notice for Wesley Commons.
