Festival of Stars set for this weekend

The 2014 Festival of Stars is set to go this weekend, beginning with a Friday night concert from one of the Lakeland’s most beloved bands.

The sixth installment of the Festival of Stars in Ninety Six kicks off Friday with a concert by the Swingin’ Medallions. The music continues into Saturday night with more local favorites, including Bless Yer Heart and Night Affair Band.

If you are not into music, there will be plenty of other activities sure to be worth the trip to the annual Independence Day celebration. There will be an auto cruise-in and contest, a motorcycle cruise-in and contest, cornhole tournament, horseshoe tournament, hot dog eating contest, most patriotic dressed contest and a parade, in addition to a waterslide, S.C. Department of Natural Resources shooting simulator, Coca-Cola Fit Family Challenge, Blood Mobile and the normal amusement rides and other vendors.

The kids will not be left out either. There is a watermelon eating contest, sack race and balloon toss for the youngsters

The fireworks will kick off around 9:45 p.m. Saturday night. A full schedule can be viewed by clicking on the banner on the right side of the page, by visiting www.SCFestivalofStars.com or by visiting the Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/scfestivalofstars.

The Festival of Stars is the largest event of the year for ninety Six and always makes for a good time, according to Town of Ninety Six tourism and events coordinator Jennifer Donlon, who planned her second Festival of Stars in 2014.

“I’m ecstatic,” Donlon said of the event. “I think it’s a great community event. It’s good family fun and it’s good for the community and for commerce.”
