If you saw a guy riding a horse through Greenwood Saturday, you were probably wondering what he was doing riding through the streets of small town in the middle of a huge barbecue festival.

The man on the horse was Greenwood Native and Carolina Panthers defensive back Josh Norman. The reason he was on the horse was to invite kids out to his Second Annual Family Fun Day.

“We’ve got to round up some kids to come out here and have a good time,” Norman said as he galloped up to the Brewer Community Complex on one of his 13 horses. “I love having the chance to give back to my home town and I love seeing kids having a good time.”

More than 300 kids came out to the Brewer Community Complex to enjoy water slides, a dunking booth, an inflatable obstacle course, bouncy houses, food and, of course, horse rides. This is the second Family Fun Day hosted by Norman as part of his nonprofit organization Starz24.

“My brothers and I stayed out of trouble because we always had something to do,” Norman said. “If I can help even one kid stay out of trouble by giving them something positive to do then it’s all worth it.”

Norman and Starz24 have been active in Greenwood and throughout South Carolina and North Carolina since he was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Norman has hosted two celebrity basketball games and a children’s fashion show in addition to the two Family Fun Days. That trend will continue, according to Norman, who says his goal is to build a community center in Greenwood.

“We’re going to keep going every year,” Norman said. “As long as I have the opportunity to give back to the community I’m going to continue doing it. This is what it’s all about: family, food, friends and kids having fun.”

Normally when someone have something they contact the newspaper themselves and a write up is done then. When they did the event did they contact a newspaper and let them know about the event? Just a thought..

Are you serious? You're worried about whether or not you got publicity for your good deed? Why were you doing it anyway? To get recognized? Good deeds with selfish motivations don't do anyone any good. Quit whining!

I full agree Henrietta, for some reason, the Black cats M/C is always forgotton about no matter what they do for the community. Those guys really do good stuff to help out the community but never given recognition, like other organizations, by either newspaper, but that is all right guys, Keep doing what u doing.we the community know that you are A Great Bunch of Guys. And I as a citizen of Greenwood County would like to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.Just keep on keeping on.

On July 5 2014 the BlackCat M/C hosted a family fun day,why wasn't there any pics or write up in the paper about that? Just a concerned citizen asking a question.
