Police: Mother stole daughter's car
A mother found herself under arrest Sunday afternoon after police say she stole her daughter’s car.
Betty Jean Brown, 47, of 805 W. Grendal Ave., has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and no S.C. driver’s license in connection with the incident.
According to a Greenwood Police Department report, police were dispatched to the victim’s home after she called to report her vehicle stolen. When police arrived, the victim told them that she believed her mother was responsible for taking the vehicle. The victim said her mother more than likely stole the keys to the vehicle while the victim was asleep. The victim said her mother did not have permission to use the vehicle and she did wish to press charges. A BOLO was issued for the vehicle and it was entered into NCIC.
According to the report, police were notified about an hour after the BOLO was issued that the vehicle had been spotted on Harrison Alley, just off Mineral Street. Officers responded to the area and spotted the vehicle as it was exiting Harrison Alley. Officers stopped the vehicle and found Brown driving the vehicle. Brown said the victim had given her permission to drive the vehicle. Brown could not provide officers with a S.C. driver’s license. Dispatch later notified officers that Brown’s license had been suspended for narcotics violations.
