CenturyLink to offer $1.4 million in Teachers and Technology grants in local markets across the country

MONROE, La. – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) is connecting teachers with technology for the classroom. The CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation’s Teachers and Technology grant program opened its application process Oct. 1 for teachers in CenturyLink’s local service areas who want to innovatively implement technology in their classrooms to increase student achievement.

Seven arrested on fraud charges, one at-large

After a Five month Investigation into the missing funds at the Greenwood County Clerk of Courts Office, The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office has obtained warrants on eight individuals and charged each of them with Financial Identity Fraud. During this investigation, Investigators processed approximately 10,000 documents and determined 523 transactions were fraudulent. “Cases such as this one are very time consuming but are often solved because of the paper trail”, said Sheriff Tony Davis.

This investigation has required the full attention of one investigator’s time since it was reported on April 7th 2015. Our Investigation has cleared all county employees. We appreciate the cooperation of the Clerk’s Office and the Treasurer’s Office staff during this investigation. This was a long time consuming investigation, but it is near completion. Seven have been arrested and one remains at-large.

State Upgrades to OPCON 3, Preparations Continue for Severe Flooding

COLUMBIA, S.C. – At 12:00 p.m. the South Carolina Emergency Management Division will increase the state’s operational condition to Level 3. OpCon3 means a disaster or emergency situation is likely in our state and that state agencies have been notified to staff positions at the State Emergency Operations Center in West Columbia. The SEOC is currently operating on a 24-hour schedule for the duration of the incident.

Piedmont Tech Hosts Business and Industry Showcase

Greenwood Partnership Alliance in association with Piedmont Technical College recently held the inaugural Greenwood County Business and Industry Showcase, which featured more than 20 Greenwood industries that provided information to approximately 1500 area 10th and 11th graders, as well as seniors from the G. Frank Russell Technology Center. The showcase was hosted in the James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Tech.

Hundreds of Job Seekers Attend Job Fair

The Greenwood Mall parking lot appeared as if it were Black Friday sales weekend, but today is all about careers.  With over 80 employers this was the perfect opportunity for those seeking jobs to get connected immediately. 

“It’s a great crowd” said Upper Savannah Council of Governments Workforce Development Administrator Sandra Johnson.  “Looking around I am impressed by so many that are dressed for success. 

Johnson also explained how many seem enthusiastic to talk with employers.  “One guy was here an hour early to ensure he was the first to talk with a particular employer” explained Johnson.

The job fair is happening now at the Greenwood Mall and will be there until 3 p.m. today.  Click here for more details and a schedule of events today.
