FEMA Appeal Process for Individual Assistance

Greenwood, SC – The storm during this past October 3-5, 2015 greatly impacted the Greenwood County area.  The Governor of South Carolina and the President of the United States declared the county a major disaster area and provide for individual as well as public assistance.  Since then, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has dispatched employees to the area to assist survivors who were affected.  The process was for survivors to apply with FEMA, then met with FEMA inspectors and receive notification from FEMA of the status of their claim.

Piedmont Agency on Aging is still looking for volunteers to deliver a hot, Thanksgiving Day meal to Meals on Wheels recipients this Thanksgiving November 26th . 

An annual event, Meals on Wheels will prepare and deliver over 100 turkey dinners to homebound seniors who may not have family around this Thanksgiving holiday. This opportunity is a great way to add a new tradition to your family’s holiday.

Chick-Fil-A Drive-Thru truck thief convicted and sentenced to 20 years
A Ware Shoals man was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison after a Greenwood County jury found him guilty of five criminal charges stemming from a July 2015 criminal rampage that spanned three Greenwood business establishments, including the Chick-Fil-A Drive-Thru and Frank’s Car Wash on Montague Avenue.

New Board Member Named to PTC Foundation

The Piedmont Technical College Foundation has named Don Holton of Greenwood as a new board member for the coming year.

Holton is the vice president of fresh pork and food service sales with Carolina Pride, where he has worked for 14 years. Previously, Holton served as the vice president of sales and marketing and the director of branded product sales.

First Citizens Foundation Donates $40,000 to Greenwood Genetic Center Foundation

In 2011, First Citizens Foundation made a five year, $40,000 financial commitment to the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC). Representatives from the bank recently presented $8,000 to the GGC to complete that commitment. The donation has been used to fund next-generation sequencing in the Center’s diagnostic and research laboratories.
