Greenwood man arrested after a girl claims he touch her inappropriately. 

Roderico Olanden Anderson, 44 of West Creswell Ave in Greenwood was arrested on December 8, 2016 and charged with 1st degree criminal sexual conduct with minor.

Piedmont Tech Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Scholarship

Tis the season of giving. If you are looking for a way to give back to the community, Piedmont Technical College has just the thing.

Piedmont Tech has been celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, the college is working to endow a 50th Anniversary Scholarship.

“For 50 years, the college has been impacting lives within our seven county area,” said Fran Wiley, assistant vice president for development. “Establishing this scholarship will help current and future PTC students achieve their dreams for generations to come.”

Singer Nat Chandler to perform before a full house in Greenwood

There’s not a ticket to be had for the appearance of Greenwood native son, Nat Chandler who will appear in a Greenwood Performing Arts (GPA) Christmas concert at Greenwood Community Theatre on Sat., Dec. 17.

GPA executive director Cecily Ferguson, said the show has been sold out for weeks. “It’s a testament to Nat’s popularity in his hometown that he will be appearing before a full house.” She added, “Even though Nat has achieved national acclaim on Broadway and in concert venues across the country, he is in touch with his Greenwood roots, and the title of the concert, Home for the Holidays, is further proof of his links to the region.”

Piedmont Tech Welcomes New Class of Presidential Ambassadors

Each year, Piedmont Technical College chooses some of its best and brightest to serve as Presidential Ambassadors. These students represent the college at campus functions, provide tours and speak about their experiences to potential students. This year’s select 13 are from a variety of backgrounds, representing many program areas and hometowns, but they all have one thing in common. They all echo a common message of gratitude for the impact Piedmont Tech has had on their lives, both personally and academically.

Pearl Harbor bombing left Lake Greenwood Park unfinished

Many may not be aware how the bombing of Pearl Harbor created a shortfall at the Greenwood State Park.  According to the South Carolina State Park, workers of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began working on a stone wall at the entrance of the park in the fall of 1941.  A part of that wall is still visible today.

Piedmont Technical College to Hold Commencement December 13

Piedmont Technical College will be holding fall commencement exercises on Tuesday, Dec. 13. 

Commencement exercises will begin at 3 p.m. in the James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood. 

Due to limited seating, tickets will be required for all guests attending the graduation ceremony. Each ticketholder, including children, will be entitled to one seat.

In recognition of Piedmont Technical College’s 50th anniversary, the commencement address will be presented by Dr. Jeremy Lord.

VELUX, a world leader in skylights and roof window manufacturing, is expanding its Greenwood County operations. The company intends to invest $4 million and create 21 new jobs as a result of the expansion.

NSHS students go pink to support breast cancer awareness

Ninety Six High School Library Club sponsored a school-wide pink out day to raise money for The American Cancer Society. The total donation contributed to The American Cancer Society was $137.00. Students donated $1.00 to wear hats, or purchase a pink ribbon to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

Recently sixteen volunteers came to United Way and attended a training partnered with the IRS to get prepared before our VITA season starts. These volunteers will be preparing taxes at the Greenwood, Abbeville and McCormick sites.

Belton man arrested over alleged rape

A 19 year old victim contacted the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office claiming she was raped and threatened with a gun by a person she knew from high school.

Christopher Michael Davenport, 21 of Broadway School Road, Belton SC has been arrested and charged with 1st degree criminal sexual conduct.

Hundreds Celebrate Lander's Holiday Tree Lighting

Rainy weather did not dampen the holiday festivities at Lander University on Tuesday night (Nov. 29), as about 600 gathered on campus for the 2nd annual Holiday Tree Lighting celebration. After monitoring the weather forecast of a much-needed rainfall for the extremely dry region, organizers decided to move most of the activities inside the Grier Student Center.

Ninety Six man bites ex-girlfriend in face

Greenwood City Police respond to a call where a woman claims a man came into her home, assaulted and bit her on the face.

Martell Antwine Hamilton Jr, 33 of 811 McKenzie Road in Ninety Six was arrested and charged with burglary, kidnapping and first degree assault and battery.

Man arrested after attacking doctor and officers in hospital

While a Greenwood City Officer was in Self Regional on an unrelated case, the officer heard a loud disturbance coming from another room in the emergency room.  As he entered the room he saw a man covered in blood and being extremely belligerent.

The patient, identified as Donald Blake Outzs, 32 of 4926 Pickens Creek Road, Hodges SC kicked the doctor in the head and struck an officer while they were attempting to treat a self-inflicted wound to his arm.

HospiceCare of the Piedmont’s Board of Directors are getting ready for the upcoming Santa Stroll and Festival of Trees.

HospiceCare of the Piedmont presents the 25th annual Festival of Trees, Silver Bells, December 3rd and 4th at First Baptist Church.  The Santa Stroll is Saturday morning, December 3rd.

Largest Group for Recruiting Event Shows Ongoing Trend in Growing Enrollment for Lander University

Lander University’s Office of Admissions hosted the school’s largest recruiting event on Saturday, Nov. 19, at its second Open House event of the year.

“Nearly 1,000 people were registered, and it was the largest group we’ve ever had here at Lander for Open House,” said Andy Benoit, vice president for Enrollment and Access Management at Lander.
