Lander's Joe Cabri selected for South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame

Retired Lander tennis coach Joe Cabri has added another honor to his illustrious career.

Cabri, a mathematics professor who coached the Lander men's tennis team to 12 national championships in his 31-year career, is among seven individuals who will be inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame on May 11 in Columbia.

Just over a year ago, Kevin and Toni Dickey were unsure if they would ever see their granddaughter, Summer, grow up. Summer suffered a severe case of shaken baby syndrome and was not expected to live, let alone continue to grow into a normal toddler. Today, Summer continues to defy the odds and is often referred to by the Dickeys as “our little miracle.”

Westview 8th Graders Receive Motivation to Follow Their Dreams from Special Guests

This poem entitled Dreams by Langston Hughes was read by 8th grader Tamara Durant and served as the introduction to Westview Middle School’s 8th grade Black History Program. The program was highlighted by S.C. Senator Floyd Nicholson, Emerald High School Senior Justin Watson, and former Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd who served as guest motivational speakers.

Interested in becoming a volunteer?  HospiceCare of the Piedmont is seeking volunteers.

Volunteers are needed in many areas:  patient sitting, working in the Hospice House, running errands, selling and sorting donations, repair work, clerical, fundraising and many other exciting opportunities that provide services to patients and families of the terminally ill. Becoming a hospice volunteer is similar to helping a neighbor in need.

Burton Center program gets everyone moving
Burton Center’s Greenwood Day Program held a “Just Move 2015” Campaign to promote exercise and heath during the month of January.    For every 15 minutes of exercise each person received a ribbon.   Consumers and staff walked briskly around the work activity center, played basketball, and did a range of motion exercise.  A total of 716 ribbons were given out which totaled 10,740 minutes of movement!
