Woman arrested after allegedly refilling roommate's prescription

A Greenwood woman was arrested Wednesday after her roommate went to a Walgreen’s Pharmacy to obtain a refill of cough syrup only to discover the refill had already been picked up.

Longtime NFL Coach, Dan Reeves to speak at Lakelands FCA
Dan Reeves, who spent 23 years as an NFL head coach, will be the keynote speaker at the 10th annual Lakelands Fellowship of Christian Athletes Development Dinner. Reeves compiled a 190-165-2 record while serving as head coach of the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons.  He played or coached in a record nine Super Bowls—five with the Dallas Cowboys, three with Denver and one with Atlanta.

Lake Greenwood master plan moving forward

A group of residents earlier this year asked Greenwood County Council to consider developing a master plan for Lake Greenwood that would unify efforts to develop what they called Greenwood’s “hidden gem.” Those plans are moving forward as the county is now actively seeking a firm to complete the plan.

Greenwood man sentenced to 35 years in double homicide

A Greenwood man was sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday afternoon to two counts of murder and one count of discharging a firearm into a dwelling in connection with the Nov. 2013 killing of two women at the Extended Stay Motel.

Greenwood Genetic Center First to Offer FDA-Cleared Whole Genome Test

Greenwood, SC – The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) is the first laboratory in the US to offer Affymetrix’ CytoScan® Dx Assay, an FDA-cleared chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA).  In January, CytoScan® Dx Assay became the first and only CMA to gain clearance by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Using a single blood sample, CytoScan Dx Assay can scan a patient’s entire genome for the cause of developmental delays, intellectual disabilities and congenital anomalies.

Tyson takes reigns at Laurens Detention Center

Laurens, SC – Joe Tyson has been promoted to administrator at the Johnson Detention Center, replacing Chris Hudson who retired last month to pursue other career options.

Tyson began his career with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office in September 2007 as a detention deputy.  He rose through the ranks, eventually serving as assistant jail administrator under Hudson.

Incumbent Worker Training Funds available for Businesses, Consortiums

The Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWT) provides training resources for businesses to train their current workforces.

The resources are available to train currently employed workers in an effort to keep businesses and workers competitive; for training needed in current businesses due to expansion, new technology, retooling, new services/product lines or new organizational structuring or as part of a layoff aversion strategy; and for which the employer provides a matching contribution of no more than 25 percent of the cost of training.
