NINETY SIX, SC – Two house fires damaged homes in Ninety Six on Thursday night. One occurred on Ninety Six Highway just before 7 p.m. and the second occurred at about 11:30 p.m.
The first fire occurred at 907 Ninety Six Highway at about 6:45 p.m. Emergency personnel responded to a fire alarm at the incident location and observed smoke coming from the residence. A firefighter with Highway 34 Fire Department was able to enter the residence and rescue an 80-year-old woman who was inside. The woman was taken to Self Regional Healthcare and then transported to Augusta to receive treatment for burns and smoke inhalation, officials said on Friday.
The second fire occurred at 106 Cothran Street at about 11:30 p.m. Officials say the homeowner was cooking and fell asleep. The fire went through the vent hood and into the attic, causing flames to shoot out of the roof. Ninety Six Fire Department responded to the scene. There were no injuries.
