Man dies in house fire

The man who died in the fire on Brickyard Road Tuesday has been identified.

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox has identified the victim as 72-year-old James H. Etheredge Sr. of Ninety Six. The manner of death has been ruled as accidental and the cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning, Cox said. Etheredge was positively identified Wednesday morning through dental records.

One man is dead following a house fire on Brickyard Road Tuesday afternoon.

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox said the victim was a male in his 70s, but could not positively identify the man. Dental records will be used Wednesday morning to confirm the man’s identity. An autopsy will also be performed Wednesday morning, according to Cox.

The fire occurred at 1024 Brickyard Rd., Ninety Six. The initial call went out just after 3 p.m. At least four fire departments responded to the fire. Greenwood County fire coordinator Steve Holmes said investigators from the State Law Enforcement Division are conducting the investigation into the cause of the fire. SLED investigators were on scene until about 9 p.m. Tuesday night. The scene was secured for the night and SLED will continue their investigation Wednesday morning. The investigation is expected to be completed Wednesday afternoon, according to Holmes.
