On Friday night for the twentieth year countless people from across Greenwood County will gather at the YMCA starting at 6:00pm. From the young to the old, men, women, boys and girls will take part in this annual event. They will come to be entertained, enjoy food, games, fun and fellowship but mostly to celebrate life.
The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life offers something to everyone. It allows families the opportunity come together, coworkers to share stories and total strangers to learn they have something in common. All have been touched by cancer.
Cancer does not care who you are or where you come from. It does not know the color of your skin. The amount of money you make or if you are male or female. It only knows to attack and destroy from within. That is why on this special Friday night before Mother’s Day. We gather to fight back and work to Finish the Fight so that our children and grandchildren will not have to.
We will celebrate the survivor’s as they proudly wear their purple shirts to make the first lap. We will remember our loved ones, friends and neighbors with each Luminaria lit.
So if you really want to make your mother happy this weekend, come join us at Relay. You will be helping everyone in Greenwood County by providing much needed funds for research, programs and free services to those facing cancer and to help educate those on early detection and prevention.
We are counting on the wonderful people of this county to make the Relay a success. Our goal is $185,000.00 and I know we can surpass it with your help.
