Toddler drowns in Abbeville

A 3-year-old child has drown after falling into a pool in Abbeville County.

According to officials with the Abbeville County Sheriff's Office, the child was being watched by her grandmother. The grandmother went inside the home with the child, located on Highway 20 in Abbeville County, to use the restroom. When the grandmother came out of the restroom she could not find the child in the house. When the grandmother went outside ot look for the child, she noticed the fence leading to the pool unlatched. When the grandmother went to the pool, she saw the child floating in the pool.

According to officials, the grandmother immediately jumped in the pool and called 911. The call came in around 1 p.m. Emergency crews rushed to the residence, but were unable to revive the child. There are no criminal charges pending at this time, officials said.

Being a Grandmother myself, I cannot imagine the grief and guilt that this lady is feeling. I understand it was in no way her fault, but I am sure she is devastated. This would be one of the worst things that could happen to anyone.
