Zach Calhoun has been playing golf since he was 10 years old. The Greenwood native knew early on he wanted to be involved in the game of golf as a career and got his chance as head golf pro at The Golf Club at Star Fort. After working as the golf pro at another local course, Calhoun is back at Star Fort.
“It’s like coming home,” Calhoun said of returning to The Golf Club at Star Fort. “I already know most of the people here and they welcomed me back with open arms.”
Calhoun grew up in Greenwood and played his prep golf at Emerald High School. He earned his pro card in 2004 and became an assistant golf pro at Grand Harbor. In 2011, he became the head golf pro at The Golf Club at Star Fort. After about a year at Star Fort, Calhoun seized what he considered a big opportunity.
“Growing up in Greenwood, I had always looked at being the head golf pro at the Greenwood Country Club as my dream job,” Calhoun said. “I was treated great when I was at Greenwood Country Club, but I wanted to get back to playing competitive golf again and that really made the difference.”
Calhoun is back at The Golf Club at Star Fort and will be competing in the Carolina PGA section and chapter events against other golf pros throughout the Carolinas.
“It was easy to come back to Star Fort,” Calhoun said. “The people here are great and it really is a family atmosphere. Plus I get a chance to play competitive golf again. Star Fort is like home to me.”
