On today’s date the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office has charged Stephanie Nelson with First Degree Sexual Misconduct with an Inmate.
As of today, Nelson is a former employee of the Laurens County Detention Center. Captain Tucker launched an investigation earlier in the week after reviewing security camera footage as an intermittent measure to monitor inmate/staff behavior. The patterns of movement regarding Nelson and the inmate were concerning, therefore Sheriff Reynolds was notified, along with investigators.
At Sheriff Reynolds direction, Investigators conducted a criminal investigation into the matter and gained enough information and evidence to obtain an arrest warrant on Nelson. The Detention Officer was also terminated from employment on the spot. Nelson was booked at the Laurens County Detention Center where a bond hearing will be held at three o’clock this afternoon.
“The public should know that I am holding each of these Deputies personally responsible for their actions” explains Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds. “I will not tolerate criminal behavior from anyone, especially our own Deputies. This county jail is as good for one person as it is another, especially those that we entrust to uphold ethics, standards, and professional practices.”
