Woman arrested after allegedly stealing money from Piggly Wiggly

WARE SHOALS – A Greenwood woman has been arrested after investigators say nearly $25,000 is unaccounted for from the Piggly Wiggly store in Ware Shoals.

Reporter assaulted in Gray Court

Amanda Lorena Keith, age 33 of Bolt Drive in Laurens, has been charged with Assault and Battery 3rd  degree after an altercation with a News Channel 7 reporter after leaving Magistrate’s Court in Gray Court, SC today, June 13th.  Keith was involved in the court proceedings due to recent charges brought against her for animal violations.

Laurens seek help locating robbery suspects
The Laurens County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred around 6 a.m. this morning at the Hot Spot convenience store located at 4036 Highway 221 South in Laurens, SC. The suspects are described as two black males possibly in their twenties with their faces covered. They’re believed to have gotten into a white Honda 2 door vehicle that was parked on Ekom Beach Road and left on 221 South traveling toward Greenwood.

Job Opportunities available in Laurens County

There will be two opportunities to find jobs next week with D&W Fine Pack and Norbord both having job fairs in Laurens County.  D&W is located off Interstate 385 near Fountain Inn while Norbord is located in the southern end of Laurens County in Kinards.

D&W Fine Pack will have a job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, June 20, at the Piedmont Technical College Center for Advanced Manufacturing, 109 Innovation Dr., Laurens. From Interstate 385, take exit 9 and turn right near Citgo.

DHEC releases additional TB testing results

According to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) their investigation of the tuberculosis outbreak in Ninety Six has been going on since March 8, 2013 inside and outside the school as it relates to the contracts of the index (first person affected & contagious).

Since its inception, many individuals with a relationship to the two infectious patients (other than those in the school) have been tested and found to carry the germ.  However, in the entire investigation inside and outside of the school, there are still only two infectious people identified thus far in the community.  Both are affiliated with the school.

Ninety Six School District to pay for student & staff TB testing

The Superintendent of Ninety Six School District Mark Petersen announced today that the district will cover the testing cost of any student and staff member who wishes to be tested for TB.

"It has come to my attention that some students and staff members who believe that they could have been exposed to tuberculosis at Ninety Six Primary School have not been able to be tested by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control".

Inaugural installment of "One Community at a Time" is huge success

LAURENS – “One Community at a Time”, a project spearheaded by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, kicked off June 8th in the Wattsville community.

A crowd of more than 200 volunteers braved tropical humidity and damp conditions to clean litter off the streets surrounding the now demolished Watts Mill.

District 52 holds unannounced public forum

NINETY SIX – The District 52 Board of Trustees held a public forum to answer questions about the tuberculosis outbreak at Ninety Six Primary School. The public forum, however, was not announced through the agenda sent out on Wednesday nor the amended agenda sent out at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
