SCDPS to promote safety throughout SC

SCDPS troopers and officers will be distributing safety materials and talking about highway safety with motorists at welcome centers / rest areas throughout the state.

Lauren County Sheriff hosting Blood Drive Nov 30

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a Blood Drive on Monday, November 30, 2015 from 8:15 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and then starting back at 1 p.m until 5 p.m.  Everyone donating will receive TBC Rewards and Free Sub Coupons for Jersey Mike’s Subs in Simpsonville, SC.

Local Agency to observe World AIDS Day
Ware Shoals, SC – World AIDS Day will be observed on Dec.12th at Little River Baptist Church at 21 West Fleming St in Ware Shoals SC. It is set to begin at 3:00pm.  The event, sponsored by Upper Savannah Care Services, is an internationally observed day of awareness and remembrance.  The theme of this event is “Past, Present, The Future – Getting to Zero”. “Public awareness is also an important component of what we do”, says Jason L. Williams, Executive Director.

NS Primary students show support for Veterans

Second graders at Ninety Six Primary School participated in a Veteran's Day activity.  Students made cards to send to Veterans to express their gratitude and appreciation.  The handmade cards and letters were sent to several Veterans within student's families and the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

PTC Student Receives Pearson Scholarship

Saluda resident Ashley Owens, an associate in science-honors and diversified agriculture student at Piedmont Technical College, has been awarded $5000 from The Pearson Scholarship for Higher Education. Through the partnership with the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Pearson awards a total of 10 scholarships to exceptional community college students who are Phi Theta Kappa members and intend to continue their education at a four-year institution.

Piedmont Technical College faculty and staff are coming together to pay tribute to armed forces veterans during a week of activities.

During the week of Nov. 9-13, the New Student Advising and Veterans Center will sponsor a variety of events to recognize and honor veterans in the community culminating with a presentation by retired Air Force Brigadier General Charles E. Fox, Jr. on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Meals on Wheels Holiday Gift Bag Project

Piedmont Agency on Aging is currently collecting items for holiday gift bags to distribute to Meals on Wheels recipients the week of Christmas.  Each Christmas, Meals on Wheels provides a brightly colored holiday gift bag of items for as many as 530 homebound seniors in our three county serving area. Greenwood, Abbeville and Laurens Counties.

Palmetto Engineering Expanding Upstate Operations

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Palmetto Engineering, a firm that specializes in telecommunications engineering, industrial electrical engineering and GIS telecommunications software, is expanding its Upstate operations with the establishment of a new facility in Anderson County. The company is investing $1.2 million in the project, creating 25 new jobs in Piedmont, S.C. over the next five years.

Additional Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Newberry to Help South Carolina Flood Survivors

COLUMBIA, S.C. – A disaster recovery center is open in Newberry to help South Carolina flood survivors. This Newberry County center is open 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM seven days a week until further notice. 

Representatives from the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other public and private agencies are at the center to explain disaster assistance programs and help survivors with applications for aid.

96 Wildcat Anglers enjoy Halloween fishing

October 31 proved to be a great day to fish for the 96 Wildcat Anglers.  The weather was great and all of the anglers did a great job.  Overall big fish was caught by Brockton Cobb that weighed a total of 3.27 lbs.  Cobb also caught his 5 fish limit with a total weight of 10.3 lbs winning the middle school class.  First runner-up for middle school was Mason Haynie with 3.95lbs.

NS Marching Band wins 1A State Championship

The Ninety Six Marching Band traveled to Batesburg – Leesville on Saturday to compete in the SCBDA State Marching Band Championship.  A total of 12 bands around the state competed.  In the end it was the Ninety Six Wildcats who swept the competition winning all three categories including Visual, Music and Overall Effect and captured the Class A 2015 State Championship.

29 Counties Declared Primary Natural Disaster Areas By U.S. Department of Agriculture

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Governor Nikki Haley today announced that United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack has issued a disaster designation for counties in South Carolina that suffered damage and losses due to heavy rains and flooding. The governor requested the disaster designation in an October 19 letter.
