SC BAR offers free legal clinic discussing grandparent's rights

The SC Bar Pro Bono Program will sponsor a free legal clinic in Greenwood on Thursday, March 26. The topic will be Grandparent’s Rights, presented by Jennings B. Anderson. The clinic will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Piedmont Agency on Aging located at 808 South Emerald Rd., Greenwood 29646.

Greenwood teen killed in Laurens County crash

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office has identified the two women killed in a Laurens County Crash early Thursday morning.
 
A Greenwood teen was killed Thursday morning in a single vehicle crash in Laurens County that left another woman injured and a third woman in critical condition.

BOJANGLES' honors six District Teachers of the Year, donates hundreds of books to local schools

On March 12, Bojangles’ on Highway 72 Bypass NW in Greenwood honored local District Teachers of the Year by presenting books donated to their school libraries and dedicated in their names. This event is one of 10 happening across South Carolina this spring as Bojangles’ continues its support of public education in the sixth year of its partnership with South Carolina Future Minds.

Cat Barn Celebrates Milestones
It was just two years ago when the Humane Society of McCormick County Cat Barn opened its door.  The HSMC "cat team" offers adoptions in South Carolina with partners Petco in Greenwood and Petsmart in Aiken. In addition cats may be adopted by special appointment at the HSMC Cat Barn in McCormick. This past February 7th marked a special day for HSMC's cat team: a lucky cat named “Henry” was the 100th cat to be adopted out. The cat team has taken care of over 111 cats at the barn and in their foster care program, including the birth of 3 kittens at the barn on April 1, 2014.

Burton Center Staff Receive Service Awards

Burton Center staff members were honored for their years of service at a luncheon held at the Greenwood Country Club.  Reverend Alvin Green delivered the keynote message. "You do such important work.  You get a chance everyday to make a difference in someone’s life,” stated Reverend Green.  “What comes out of Burton Center is a display of God at work.  Your greatest blessing and the thing you will be most proud of will come from going beyond your job description."

Oconee Sheriff's Office Seeks Greenwood Man on Murder Charges in Weekend Shooting at Sonny's Bar and Grill

(Walhalla, SC) -  The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Greenwood man on multiple charges, including murder, in regards to the weekend homicide at Sonny’s Bar and Grill in Seneca.

30 year old Dw’Ntraquis Rashaad Campbell of 119 Oak Hill Street has been charged by the Sheriff’s Office with murder in the shooting death of Anthony Letron Holden of Seneca. Campbell has also been charged with three counts of Attempted Murder in the shooting of three other individuals and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime. Warrants and information on Campbell have been entered into the National Crime Information Center database.

Man missing from Gray Court

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Joshua Frank Gillian, 33 who went missing from the Gray Court area. Gillian was last seen on February 2, 2015 when he left his resident at 283 Pasture Drive, Gray Court.  He was driving his green Ford Ranger truck with SC license plate IWH554.

Two men are each facing a drug trafficking charge after agents with the Greenwood County Drug Enforcement Unit discovered over 30 grams of cocaine Monday morning during a traffic stop along S.C. 246.

Ninety Six to hold Calendars & Coffee event

Residents of Ninety Six are invited to a new social event called Calendars & Coffee.  There is no real agenda, just a meet & greet for residents, business owners, schools, community groups, town council and other organizations to share your calendar events, products and discuss interest items.

The event is set for April 2, 2015 at 7pm at the Historic Train Depot in town.  Please plan to join, share information and enjoy fellowship while enjoying some coffee and soft drinks.

Amazon Expanding Lexington County Operations

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Amazon, a global leader in e-commerce, today announced plans to hire 500 additional full-time employees at the company’s Lexington County fulfillment center. 

Since opening in 2012, the Amazon fulfillment center in West Columbia, S.C. has brought more than 1,500 full-time jobs to Lexington County. Amazon is adding the new positions to meet growing customer demand. Employees will pick, pack and ship customer orders.

Recleim Announces Grand Opening of Flagship Recycling Center in South Carolina

GRANITEVILLE, S.C.  – Recleim LLC, a next-generation recycling services provider, celebrated today the grand opening of its flagship recycling center in Graniteville, S.C. Governor Nikki Haley joined Recleim leadership, members of the business community and local dignitaries to cut the ribbon at a newly renovated facility known as Hickman Mill. Recleim expects to hire approximately 200 people by the end of the year.
