Authorities in Laurens County are searching for man wanted on several charges, including attempted murder, who escaped custody Monday afternoon.

ASD Support Group kicks off first meeting May 28

Greenwood now has a support group for families with autistic children.  The Greenwood County Autism Support Group will kick off with their first meeting on May 28 at the Greenwood County Library in the Veteran’s Auditorium from 6:30pm – 8pm.  Then the group will continue meeting on the 4th Thursday of each month at the same time.

Summer Jobs at Ninety Six National Historic Site available to teens

The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) was established by Public Law 93-408 and is a summer employment program for young men and women between the ages of 15 and 18 to work, learn, and earn together on projects that further the development and conservation of the natural and cultural resources of The United States.

Fallen Power Line Block Hwy 34

A Greenwood County Sheriff Deputy blocks off Hwy 34 this morning just before 9am after finding a power line down with wires crossing the road.  Apparently the storm this morning caused a power pole to fall.  The road was block for less than two hours as Duke Energy made the necessary repairs.  Some residents were without power for several hours until repairs were complete.

Laurens Woman Joins JDLH Board

McCORMICK--Gov. Nikki Haley has appointed Melissa Tilden of Laurens to serve on the John de la Howe School Board of Trustees.

The Raleigh, NC native is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in French. She currently assists in a self-contained, learning disabled class at Laurens Middle School. She has also taught French at the high school level, worked in the banking industry and owned and operated a bookstore for 15 years.

Child molester found guilty, warrant issued for arrest

The search is now on for a convicted child molester after an Abbeville County jury found the man guilty of first degree criminal sexual conduct following a trial held in the man’s absence.

SCCA Leath Chapter shares the spirit of Easter
Members of the SCCA Leath Chapter Association delivered Easter baskets and spread cheer to patients at Self Regional Healthcare.  The children in the pediatric ward were especially excited.  One mother stated that it was the first time her son had smiled in a while.

96 Chamber Photo Contest to "Capture 96"

The Ninety Six Chamber of Commerce is hosting this year’s photo contest to “Capture 96”.  They are looking for photos that capture Ninety Six businesses, landmarks, activities, events, history and everyday living.

Deadline for entries is June 19, 2015.  Winners will be announced during the SC Festival of Stars Celebration on July 4th.

Coyote Control Seminar
Coyotes can have a significant impact on wildlife and domestic animals. However, because of the intelligence of the coyote, controlling them can be frustrating. This workshop will provide basic information on coyote biology as well as hands-on demonstrations for coyote trapping. Additionally, participants will learn how to trap for coyotes within the law and SCDNR regulations.

Moss and Associates Selected as Design/Build Team for Clemson University Center for Human Genetics

The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) is pleased to announce that Moss and Associates of Greenville, SC has been selected to design and construct the Clemson University Center for Human Genetics in Greenwood. This project represents an expansion of the 20 plus year research and educational partnership of GGC and Clemson University.

Vacant Agricultural/Hay Lease at Ninety Six National Historic Site

Ninety Six National Historic Site is seeking a lessee to harvest hay in the park. The agricultural lease program is intended to maintain the historic setting.

Approximately 85 acres of agricultural lands will be leased through a Special Use Permit. The permit will be issued for a period of 1 year. The park will accept bids until 5:00 PM on Friday, April 10.
